The October Revolution
Brief Description
The October Revolution, also known as the Bolshevik Revolution, was the second revolution in the 1917 Russian Revolution. The Revolution was led by the Bolshevik party on October 23, 1917 (Old Style Date) (5th November New Style Date). The Bolshevik party led Russian workers and peasants to overthrow the Provisional Government. The Provisional Government was made up of Socialist such as, Alexander Kerensky, who was part of the Socialist Revolutionaries and became the Prim Minister of the Provisional Government in July, 1917.
"The Socialist Revolutionaries were one of the most influential group in Russia up until 1917." - History Learning Site
Although the Provisional Government was made up of Socialist who believe that everyone should share all the properties that this country owns, they discriminated the working class and peasants. They refused to give land to peasants simply because they did not understand why the peasants would need land. Which as a result of the October Revolution, led the Bolshevik Party to win and overthrow the Provisional Government. The revolution lasted for 6 years, it ended in 1923.
Relations To animal Farm
The October Revolution was represented by the Revolution that the animals came up with to overthrow Napoleon after they realized that Napoleon was acting more and more like a human, as well as the quotation:
"All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others." - Animal Farm
The October Revolution1. Working class and peasants were rebelling against the Provisional Government.
2. The working class people and peasants were angry at how they were being treated by the Provisional government because the Provisional government did not understand their needs since no one in the government could identify with them. 3. The people were confused on how the Provisional Government were all for the Socialist idea when they were being treated no different than before the revolution. (Also identifies with point two.) |
the (Almost) second revolution of Animal Farm1. Some of the animals in the farm who weren't pigs that understood what they had seen with Napoleon and the humans were rebelling against Napoleon. The animals on the farm represented the working class people and peasants during the October Revolution because the animals were the ones who were working all day everyday on the farm in return to have a "fair" share amount of food. ("fair" because the pigs got the apples and more milk than others.)
2. The animals were confused with how Napoleon was going against the Seven Commandments. Such as, "Four legs good, Two legs bad." The pigs started making deals with humans, and they've also started walking on two legs instead of four. As well as that, one of the Seven Commandments were "No animals shall kill any other animal.", Napoleon had executed four pigs and numerous animals because of his insecurities. why you think Orwell chose to represent the event or character in the way he did. How successful do you think it was?
Orwell had represented the October Revolution inside the novel with the animals of the farm confusing Napoleon for Mr. Jones since Napoleon was acting more and more like a human. The author represented the October Revolution in a very direct and black-and-white way towards the end of the novel where none of the animals could identify Napoleon from the humans, representing how the working class people and peasants couldn't tell the difference that the Russian Revolution made since they were still being treated the same way. George Orwell was very successful in capturing the confusion that the people in Russia felt after the first Russian Revolution in 1917, and the reason why the October Revolution happened.
